Bok Tower Gardens Foundation offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced and motivated individual to serve as a key member of the Garden’s senior management team to lead and implement the visioning and strategic planning process for a growing Education Department.  The organization is implementing  the first phase of a twenty-year master plan which will include historic garden restoration, native plant and wildlife gardens, edible garden, children’s garden,  and new interpretive and education programs.

The position will develop/administer a new fully funded school and community food garden program in conjunction with the University of Florida’s Extension Service; be responsible for short and long range planning for educational programs; facilitate and supervise the site’s interpretive team; determine site-specific interpretive goals and training; oversee new exhibit hall displays; expand existing school and family education programs.

Bok Tower Gardens is centrally located between Tampa and Orlando among rolling hills of citrus.  Dedicated in 1929, the National Historic Landmark and Olmsted designed gardens was planned as a bird sanctuary and meditative garden surrounding an art deco and neo-Gothic 205 foot carillon tower of pink marble and tan coquina stone.  The 60-bell carillon and its facilities is the finest in the world. 

 

Training, Experience and Characteristics

  • Master’s degree in education, environmental/agricultural science, public administration, or related field
  • Minimum of five years experience in managing a public garden or museum education program with supervision of staff and volunteers.
  • Experience withschool and community food gardens a plus
  • Team player with excellent communications and financial grants management skills
  • Experience with interpretive programming
