Position Available: Senior Director of Individual and Campaign Giving

General Summary: The Senior Director of Individual and Campaign Giving is a senior member of the development team and provides strategic direction for unrestricted, restricted, planned, and campaign gifts from individuals. The Senior Director will play a key role in strategic leadership of the upcoming capital campaign in partnership with the Vice President of Development. He/she will manage a personal portfolio of individual donors/prospects with the capacity to make gifts in the five- and six-figure range. Establishes ambitious revenue goals and implements effective strategies to achieve success at the major gift level from individuals. Works closely with the President/CEO, Vice President of Development, high level fundraising volunteers, and Arboretum program leadership to maximize and capture donor giving potential.

Job Qualifications

Previous Training and Experience

A Bachelor's degree and a minimum of seven to ten years of proven achievement in non-profit fundraising program or related field. Demonstrated experience in strategy development and success in the cultivation and solicitation of individual gifts of five- and six-figures using a moves management system. Demonstrated campaign experience. Proven ability to successfully motivate, engage and interact with senior leadership, trustees, high level donors and volunteers. Proven ability to effectively motivate and manage staff, and to build strong, collaborative partnerships with peers in a fast-paced, team-based environment. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office, and have experience managing donors/prospects using a fundraising database; Raiser’s Edge experience preferred.

Physical/Mental Requirements

Exceptional leadership, planning, and organizing skills. Outstanding interpersonal skills including the ability to discern and respond to donor interests to meet both donor and institutional goals. Strong supervisory and project management skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Comfortable working with individuals from all stations of life. A commitment to, and ability to effectively convey, the Arboretum’s mission with genuine passion, and the willingness to continually learn about the programs and mission Arboretum.

Working Conditions

1. Work is performed in a combined indoor (90%) and outdoor (10%) setting.

2. Requires some physical activity: lifting (up to 10 lbs.), bending, climbing stairs, carrying (10 lbs.), sitting, standing, walking, and traveling by car and train.

3. Extended work hours as needed, including evenings and weekends.
