Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens
Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, a great steel and glass Victorian greenhouse, has been inviting visitors to explore the beauty and mysteries of plants since 1893. Phipps stands as a cultural and architectural centerpiece of the city’s Oakland neighborhood and has become a strong advocate for advanced green building practices, sustainable gardening and a new environmental awareness.
 
Phipps is seeking a Studio Phipps Intern for the summer 2013 season. Studio Phipps offers sustainable site design services that reflect Phipps’ mission to inspire and educate all with the beauty and importance of plants and to advance sustainability and promote human and environmental well-being through action and research. Assignments will vary and may include project research, site visits, hand drawing/ design, computer production, and assisting on proposals. The intern will also assist the design team in maintaining and monitoring on-site research projects including alternative lawn and compost tea research.
Students pursuing degrees in landscape architecture or landscape design are encouraged to apply. College credit may be available depending on a student’s university programs. Applicants must be proficient in AutoCAD. This is a paid 10-week internship, 20 hours per week.
