POSITION TITLE: Seasonal Horticulturist
DEPARTMENT (s): Horticulture
Under general direction, the Seasonal Horticulturist is responsible for performing all aspects of horticulture maintenance by pruning, planting, grooming, dividing, I.P.M, and soil management. This position reports to the Director of Horticulture and is also led in the field by Senior Horticulturists and a Field Supervisor. Work hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30am-4:00pm beginning on/or around May 1st through October 31st.

preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein if such functions are
a logical assignment to the position.
Assist in performing horticulture maintenance by mobilizing the skills, physical capability, tools, and supplies needed to perform tasks such as plant care, soil management, pest management, manual and automated irrigation, and trash removal from planted areas.
· All aspects of plant care including, but not limited to, pruning, planting, grooming, dividing, and propagating
· Soil management, including fertilizing, aerating and cultivating, composting, and compost tea application
· Pest management, including scouting, setting traps, and spraying low-toxicity pesticides
Assist in the safe, effective, and efficient operation and maintenance of all equipments. Equipments include but are not limited to: vehicles (electric trucks and tractor), cutting tools (chain saws, hand saws, lawn mowers, chippers, and pruners), power equipment (generators and air compressors), hand tools (spades, forks, rakes, and brooms), and safety equipment (respirators, protective gloves, hard hats, and goggles).
Work as a team member and maintain positive work relations with fellow crew members and all other members of Parks Conservancy.
Be able to work in large and small groups, as well as independently. Also contribute to crew operations by offering suggestions and field observations.
Expand one’s knowledge and skills in the field by learning from one’s leaders and peers.
Interact with the public in an informative and friendly manner.
Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture or closely related field, and/or a minimum of three (3) years previous experience.
