Description: The John C. and Margaret K. White Gardens is a newly established public garden with an azalea, rhododendron and camellia collection established by John and Margaret White. The thirteen acre garden is under development. Current activities are focused on garden clean-up and preserving and identifying the existing trees and shrubs.
The intern will help with identifying and labeling key specimens and with volunteer supervision at workdays. There will be opportunities to interact with staff and interns at Green Spring Gardens, and to visit other public gardens in the region.
Compensation: Interns will be temporary, part-time employees of the Fairfax County Park Authority. Compensation is $10.46/hour for up to 300 hours. Start and end dates are negotiable.
Requirements: Applicants must be enrolled in a two or four year horticulture, botany, environmental education or similar degree program. Internship responsibilities include developing a project proposal, conducting project activities and presenting a written and oral project report.
