Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Garden Manager in Seal Harbor, ME
The Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Garden (AARG) in Seal Harbor, ME seeks a full-time, experienced garden manager beginning in March, 2013. The garden was designed by Beatrix Farrand in the late 1920s and has been owned and operated by three generations of Rockefellers. While still privately owned, the garden is managed by the Mount Desert Land & Garden Preserve, the nonprofit owner and operator of the Asticou Azalea Garden and Thuya Garden. The AARG is open to the public one day a week July and August and will eventually become a public garden of the Garden Preserve. The walled garden surrounded by woods and trails that connect to Acadia National Park blends English herbaceous borders with Eastern aesthetics and sculpture in a coastal Maine landscape. The position requires extensive knowledge of annual and perennial plants including propagation and greenhouse cultivation; experience with native groundcovers, shrubs and trees; excellent management and supervisory skills; a passion and keen eye for design; computer competency; and the ability to work with family members, a large staff and the public. Review of candidates will begin in early February. Request job description from email@example.com call 207-276-5525.
