Horticulture Internship – 2013 Season
Greenwood Gardens invites individuals to apply for a horticultural internship.
Greenwood Gardens is a 28-acre public garden in Short Hills, New Jersey, recognized as nationally significant for its beauty, history, and design. The landscape combines formal gardens, open meadows, woodlands, and pasture. Greenwood Gardens has completed Phase One of restoration to revive elements of the century-old gardens to their 1920s splendor. The project completes Greenwood’s transformation from a private retreat to a public garden, providing necessary visitor amenities including safe walking paths for visitors, handicapped accessibility, and public restrooms and parking.
This internship at Greenwood Gardens is designed to augment the horticultural education and/or training of a student through hands-on experience. A qualified candidate will be pursuing a career in Horticulture or related field, is able bodied, hard working and expected to lift a minimum of 50 pounds. The individual will have the opportunity to learn about many aspects of public horticulture and to work side by side with knowledgeable horticulturists, as well as independently, in all areas of the garden.
Specific responsibilities include planting and maintenance of perennial beds and container plants, transplanting trees and shrubs, use of power equipment (following training), weeding and mulching, lawn maintenance, IPM, botanical record keeping, and assisting with public events, tours and workshops.
Hours and Compensation
This is a temporary full time position, Monday through Friday, from May through October, requiring some weekend hours for open days and special events. We offer $12.50 per hour.
