Horticultural Manager - CT
Large property in Northwest Connecticut seeks horticultural manager to oversee high-end horticultural operations on a large, diverse property.
Responsibilities include managing 9-13 team members who maintain the property to the highest horticultural standards, organizing administrative aspects of the gardens, assisting in the gardens, and realizing the owner’s requests.
The gardens comprise the house gardens (laid out with the help of Dan Kiley and Madison Cox) - which consist of a medicinal herb garden, cut flower and small fruiting shrubs garden, and a large rose garden. Other gardens include a large woodland garden, pond gardens, magnolia walk, vegetable gardens, orchard, and gardens around other houses located on the property. The property also has a greenhouse complex and a small nursery. Almost all annual and perennial plant needs for the property are produced on site. The owner is a passionate plants person who is very involved in the garden. The property is operated on a sustainable management regime using organic methods as much as possible. Compost tea is brewed and used extensively on the property. Experience or interest in pasture management a plus.
We are looking for someone with strong supervisory skills who has at least five years of horticultural management experience. The candidate should be a good plants person with attention to detail. Must have proven leadership ability with strong communication skills, and good organizational skills.
