Job Summary

Position: Seasonal Horticulturist
Reports To: Horticulture Manager
Position Status: Seasonal Part-time (32 or 24 hours per week)

Position Duration: April/May through October/November

The seasonal horticulturist works during the peak of the growing season assisting the horticulture manager and volunteers with standard bed maintenance. Duration of employment is approximately 26 to 32 weeks from the date of hire – there are no benefits for this position.  Work hours are flexible, but this position is expected to work at least one weekend day each week. This position requires the ability to lift 50 pounds and work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.

Job Responsibilities

• Perform garden and grounds maintenance tasks including planting, weeding, mulching, pruning, mowing, fertilizing and other tasks as required
• Safe operation of power tools such as mower, leaf blower, and string-trimmer
• Utilize organic pest management techniques under supervision
• Supervise horticulture volunteers as required
• Interact with garden guests as required
• Other duties as required

Job Requirements

• Demonstrated knowledge of basic plant maintenance
• Demonstrated knowledge of safe operation of tools and equipment
• Willingness to perform hands-on horticulture tasks in all weather conditions Ability to lift 50 pounds
• Ability to work at least one weekend day per week with occasional evening work for events
• Customer service experience

Job Qualifications

• High school diploma or G.E.D., Bachelors preferred
• At least 3 years of demonstrated experience in plant maintenance and experience operating power equipment preferred
• Enjoys and able to work with diverse populations
• Able to work under supervision or independently
