2013 SUMMER Horticulture Internships
Winterthur’s Arborist Internship Program provides a diverse and exciting experience for students in the fields of Arboriculture, Forest Technology, Urban Forestry and related disciplines.
Other internships are offered in the fields of garden and estate maintenance, natural lands and arboriculture. All interns participate in classes, attend lectures and field trips and complete short-term projects. Housing is available at Winterthur.
Arborist Intern (one position)
The arborist intern assists the arborist in maintaining the health and vigor of the trees throughout the Winterthur Garden while learning arboricultural techniques. The intern participates in all phases of tree care management, including ground and/or aerial pruning of trees.
Six months educational and/or field experience in the study of arboriculture or a related field; ability to express ideas clearly, orally and in writing; ability to execute oral and written instructions; ability to lift 50 pounds; ability to safely operate chainsaw and other power equipment; such as chipper, lawn mower, push blower, electric hedge trimmer, hand blower and other power equipment; sufficient hearing and sight to be aware of nearby guests and staff when using or close to equipment. Must have a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record; ability to drive stick shift dump truck & utility vehicles. Salary $9.50 per hour. 35 work week – Monday –Friday.
