Position Summary:  Ladew Gardens, located in Monkton Maryland,seeks an experienced Director of Development and Communications to manage annual fundraising, coordinate internal and external communications, and be a key team member in a campaign to build organizational capacity.

 

Accountability: The Director of Development and Communications reports to Executive Director and works with Board and other committees on fundraising and communications, and supervises the Development staff.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

§  Update and implement the organization’s Development Plan which includes fundraising strategies, action steps, and timelines, in collaboration with the Executive Director and Development Committee of the Board of Directors.

§  Coordinate and engage in efforts to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward major donors (individual major donors and foundations) in collaboration with the Executive Director.

§  Conduct research to identify potential new foundation, civic, corporate and individual donors.

§  Prepare letters of inquiry, grant proposals, and reports to foundation funders and maintain a schedule of deadlines for the submission of proposals and reports. Complete implementation of a donor database.

§  Update and implement Ladew’s Marketing Plan ensuring a donor focus in internal and external communications.

§  Work with other members of the leadership team to ensure that proper systems are in place regarding the appropriate recording and accounting of all contributions, and the timely acknowledgement of all gifts.

Skills/Qualifications:  

§  Bachelors Degree required, advanced degree or CFRE preferred.

§  At least five years of experience with nonprofit fund development including marketing and communications.

§  Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel. 

§  Experience with a donor management system, DonorPro a plus.

§  Strong work ethic and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

§  Exceptional oral and written communication skills.

§  Highly organized, dedicated, responsible, and team-oriented.

§  Must be able to work as part of a staff team working to sustain Ladew.
