The Desert Museum’s gardens showcase a vibrant ecosystem and represent a variety of biotic communities found within the Sonoran Desert Region, the lushest desert in the world. The Museum exhibits more than 1,200 different species of cacti and succulents with 56,000 individual specimens. More than 15 exhibit areas are displayed in a natural 21-acre setting.
The Haag Cactus Garden is bursting with blooms in spring. Succulents and 138 species of cacti are grouped to represent the different geographic regions of the Sonoran Desert. The garden was dedicated on May 7, 1965 and named in honor of John Haag, founder of the Tucson Cactus & Succulent Society and former curator of plants at the Desert Museum.
