About YOUtopia

YOUtopia is a program to elevate the leadership of public gardens through an institutional pledge to reduce gardens’ climate impact, and engage your millions of annual visitors in climate solutions. YOUtopia helps gardens, individuals and communities. Everyone benefits. Join your fellow garden leaders in this national climate leadership initiative.(pdf)

 

Participation in YOUtopia is free, flexible and includes three things                                                                     

Lead by example and illustrate how your garden is/will reduce net climate impact.

Identify a key staff person to lead program implementation. Develop institutional action plans to reduce your garden’s climate impact that include specific goals, initiatives, and measurements. Reduction efforts can be existing or new. Utilize YOUtopia to provide more information to your visitors how you have measurably reduced climate impacts. Identify and begin communicating about at least two impact reduction efforts within six months of joining YOUtopia. 

 

 

Educate and engage garden visitors, volunteers, staff, and community in climate impacts and sustainable solutions.

Select, customize, and implement elements of YOUtopia that will maximize visitor engagement and spotlight your garden’s climate impact reduction. Explore resources to engage staff and visitors (must be logged in) to learn more.                              

                                                                            

                                      Monitor and share results.

Create and implement mechanisms for tracking progress on these goals and actions. Publicly share your garden’s plan and report at least annually to the APGA and stakeholders on progress to reduce climate impact including your success stories, photos, visitor survey results, and impact reduction results. By doing so, your garden will provide transparency, and enable individual and collective achievements of APGA members to be recognized and publicized.
